The importance of phospholipids, which are the main component of fractionated and highly purified lecithins, is increasing in the pharmaceutical industry. Their function as a technical excipient in the preparation of medicinal products is particularly appreciated.

Lecithins or their phospholipids can thus be used in many different applications and as components of active ingredients e.g.

• for checking the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood
• for treating fat metabolism disorders
• for the treatment of liver and bile diseases
• for improving the functioning of nerves and brain
• for stabilizing the membrane function
• for treating arteriosclerosis
• for stabilizing the lung surfactant
• for strengthening the constitu

The emulsifying and stabilizing effect is particularly important when used as an excipient:

• as emulsifier for infusion solutions
• as lubricant and distribution agent for suppository masses
• for the synthesis of liposomes
• as stabilizer for suspensions and emulsions

Lecithins can play an important role in the formulation because they have many positive effects on the human metabolism.

Phosphatidylcholine is able to lower the cholesterol and LDL levels in the body and increase the HDL level. Furthermore, the substance can strengthen the liver and thus prevent liver damage.

An important nutrient for the human brain is phosphatidylserine. Phosphatidylserine optimizes the release of neuro-transmitters and thus improves the energy metabolism in the brain.
